The Origin of Metro

Metro may be a familiar name to Canadian shoppers, but few people know the company’s origin story. The company was initially founded as Metro Meat Traders in 1932 by a group of six butchers who formed a partnership to establish a chain of consumer meat shops under the name Metro Meat Traders. The company expanded, and between 1947 and 1952, it acquired the 12 The Metro food chain was established by a group of independent grocers. In 1967, the chain’s name was changed to Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) Theaters Inc. as part of a joint venture with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios. The company was renamed Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Canada in 1984 when the joint ownership of the studios ended. In 1991, the company’s name was changed back to Metro Inc. and it sought to diversify operations with an aggressive acquisition strategy. Metro purchased a variety of companies that operated in the fields of publishing, soft drink manufacturing, and toy manufacturing.

Metro Today

As Metro continues to expand its grocery store chain, it is finding success in both urban and rural areas across Canada. In many ways, Metro’s present-day success can be traced back to its humble beginnings as a small chain of butcher shops. Metro’s early focus on providing high-quality meat has evolved into a wide variety of grocery products. Metro’s core product offerings still focus on fresh meats, produce, and private-label groceries. The chain has also expanded into other areas, such as brewing. Future growth is expected to come from Metro’s expansion into new markets. The company has been pursuing a strategy of expanding outside its traditional markets of Quebec and Ontario. Metro has already opened stores in Western Canada, and it plans to open several stores across the globe in years to come.

Metro discount Program

Metro has a program called Metro Select that provides members with discounts on groceries and exclusive member-only deals. There are two types of membership for Metro Select: Gold and Silver. The Gold plan costs $55 annually, and members get $55 in “Buy One Get One” (BOGO) coupons and 2% back in rewards. The Silver plan costs $30 annually, and members get $30 in BOGOs and 1% back in rewards. Members can earn points with every $1 spent on groceries and other purchases. Points can be redeemed in various ways, including a gift card or an exchange for groceries.

Metro Flier and Catalog

The Metro Flier is a weekly promotional flier that serves as a helpful resource for consumers who want to stay on top of the latest and greatest deals. The Metro Flier also includes coupons for everything from fresh produce to toiletries. Vouchers for products in the flier can be redeemed online or in-store. Metro also publishes a quarterly catalog of special offers and products from its private-label brands. This catalog is mailed to Metro members.
