Sobeys made its Canadian debut in 1907 when Nathan Sobeys, a young French-Canadian entrepreneur, launched a small grocery store in Boucherville, Quebec. The company earned its first profits the following year, when it experienced expansion to another huge location in Montreal, Quebec. Sobeys' success continued for decades, but the company truly flourished in the 1940s and 1950s. It was during this period, Sobeys decided to explore other regions like Ontario, New Brunswick, and the Maritime provinces for business expansion.
