We’ve all been there: going on a buying spree for things that we don’t really need, feeling a rush of excitement and dopamine, just to have it all crashing down when we realize the truth. We didn’t really need that new outfit, or those new shoes, or any stuff. On second thought, maybe it was not a good decision to go on a shopping spree after all, but only buy the stuff that you really wanted - that one item you went to that store in the first place. It can be tough sometimes, for sure, but you know you’re not alone. Buyer's remorse is a real thing, and as we said, we’ve all been there at some point. To clarify, buyer’s remorse is what we call that feeling of acute grief and guilt after a purchase. Usually comes when we were uncertain about it to begin with, and when the item is expensive or extravagant. But it doesn’t have to be this way - at least not all that often. Some of it is bound to happen, no matter what. But here are some tips to help you improve your shopping habits and avoid buyer’s remorse.
Tips for a Better Shopping Life

Do Some Soul Searching

Stop for a moment and ask yourself: why is it that I'm doing all this shopping, even when I don’t feel good about it? What is the motive, the one thing in your continuousness that drives you towards bad shopping habits? Sometimes all we need is to re-align ourselves with our souls, our true selves, and figure out that we’re not shopping out of need or want, but to fill a hole inside our souls. It’s OK to admit to yourself: “I have a shopping problem”.

Thinking about it and admitting it is always the first step. If you feel discouraged or stuck somehow, don’t be afraid of looking for help. And if your shopping problems are mild, or you think that they are under control, some introspective time will only do you good. So, tip number 1: don’t go shopping just yet. Stop to breathe for a moment and consider everything that has been going on with your life and your emotions.

Go Do Something Else

Yes, literally anything that makes you feel good. Instead of going to the mall, go take a walk in the park and enjoy nature. Instead of browsing products online, go read some amazingly written articles online. Do something that you enjoy. If shopping is a really enjoyable habit, you got to find something that is equally enjoyable and do that instead. Something with fewer consequences and more laughs.

Something truly meaningful, something that can make you feel better about yourself, even after you finish doing it. A new hobby, perhaps, or starting a new series to watch on streaming, or giving a friend a call. It will also help you fill that hole we all have without spending all your hard-earning money on stuff you didn’t really want or needed.
